KUALA NERUS, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has climbed 48 spots in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings: Asia 2020.
Its vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar, said being ranked 243rd is a new record for the relatively new university in Malaysia.
"In 2019, we were in the 291 - 300 range, so this shows significant improvement. We will continue to work on closing the gap with leading universities,” he added in a statement today.
He said it was achieved through research studies, strategic global partnerships, inbound and outbound student exchange, memoranda of understanding and international research.
He said some 118 research grants were received from local and overseas organisations totalling RM10.3 million for data gathering from Jan 1, 2019 - Oct 2019.
"Aside from this, holistic leadership is emphasised in students through organisation and involvement in invention and innovation competitions nationally and internationally,” he added.
He said the improved ranking will have a positive impact on the university and energize it to achieve a 150 - 200 range ranking in 2021.
