KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin today downplayed Umno Youth's decision to not invite other parties in the federal government coalition to its assembly.

Ahead of Umno's general assembly next week, the Umno vice-president said its Umno wings are not obliged to extend such an invitation.

"It is not a problem as it is not compulsory for Umno wings to invite others," he told the reporters at the University of Malaya here, referring to the unity government component parties.

"This is since the Umno General Assembly for the national level has invited them. Therefore, there is no need for Umno wings to do so."

He was responding to media query on Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who said the wing's executive council members and state chapter chiefs have unanimously decided to exclude any other parties from its assembly next week.

On Friday, Dr Akmal said that the decision was made as the wing wishes to resolve its internal issues first.

Umno, as part of Barisan Nasional, is a part of the federal ruling coalition which also include Pakatan Harapan, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

The Umno General Assembly (PAU) 2023 will run from June 7 to 10 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
