Umno Youth chief says Khairy could be future PM if he wants it
GERIK, Nov 12 — Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki today joined the list of the party leaders endorsing Khairy Jamaluddin’s potential to be the prime minister one day.
He also said that Khairy has been an exemplary leader especially among the youth segments and capable of holding such a high office.
“It’s good for anyone to express themselves to be a leader of a party in the future. The whole objective is to serve the people and if he feels like he can serve the people better by being at a certain position, for me, it’s up to the individual,” he said.
Asyraf ,who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in Gerik, also said Khairy has held various high profile roles and climbed up the party’s ranks, indicating he has the potential to reach the country’s highest office.
“But, of course, our immediate prime minister candidate is Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, but in the future, who knows?” he added.
Previously, Khairy declared his ambition to be a future prime minister while campaigning in Sungai Buloh, but stressed that it was not yet his time and that Ismail Sabri remained BN’s choice for the 15th general election.
He also sought to depict himself as unafraid to stand up against Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who has reacted frostily to Khairy’s expressed ambitions.
