KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 — Umno supreme council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi today demanded that the new government prosecute Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali.

He said there was no reason not to proceed with the case against Judge Nazlan, with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) having concluded its investigations September this year.

Judge Mohd Nazlan was the presiding judge in the trial of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, whom he sentenced to 12 years in prison over the misappropriation of RM42 million of government-owned firm SRC International Sdn Bhd.

"Judge Nazlan's investigation papers had been leaked and thus far no parties have stepped forth to deny its legitimacy. Hence the new government cannot stay silent over this especially since the investigation is over and it's been handed to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) for further action.

"When there's no follow up, no intervention and no prosecution, just silence, that means there has been collusion in the judiciary. There must be something to hide which is why Najib and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's cases were selected prosecution.

"I hope the new government will speed up Judge Nazlan's prosecution," he said in a statement this morning.

On September 29, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the commission was awaiting further instructions from the AGC in relation to the case.

MACC was reported to have opened an investigation paper into Mohd Nazlan following his police report denying the allegation made by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin on allegations of a sum of money from an undetermined source being found in his account.

Mohd Nazlan had lodged a police report claiming that Raja Petra’s April 20 blog post contained "false, baseless and malicious” allegations intended to interfere with the justice system and judiciary.

The online attacks against Mohd Nazlan as the SRC trial judge started appearing more than one and a half years after his July 2020 verdict that found Najib guilty, or in other words just about three months after the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court’s decision on December 8 last year.
