KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 — Sungai Besar Umno Division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos has called on the “Red Shirts” movement he once led to rise up again to counter a demonstration planned by Perikatan Nasional (PN) at Sogo Complex here on September 16.

Jamal said the counter rally is to save the country from the Opposition PN, News Straits Times reported today.

“Come Red Shirt Movement, let's go down and save the country from the PN faction,” he was quoted as saying.

Jamal has organised assemblies under the name Himpunan Maruah Melayu (Malay Dignity Rally) in 2015 that saw its participants wear red-coloured shirts as the then president of the Coalition of Malay NGOs.

Jamal’s declaration comes after PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari’s announcement yesterday that the Opposition plans to hold a peaceful assembly in front of the Sogo shopping mall on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in the city centre this Saturday.

The Pasir Mas MP said the gathering is to protest Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) of all 47 corruption charges for the RM31 million misappropriated from charitable organisationYayasan Akalbudi last week.

Ahmad Fadhil said the PN demonstration is planned for 2pm on Malaysia Day.

New Straits Times also reported city police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid saying investigations have been opened under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements conducing to public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities on the matter.

He said police have received six reports related to the organisation of the “Save Malaysia” assembly so far.

“We have not yet received a notification of the assembly,” he was quoted as saying.

Allaudeen added that police will summon Ahmad Fadhli and Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for questioning about the Malaysia Day assembly.
