Ulrika Jonsson has lifted the lid on the “bed-hopping” that went on behind the scenes on Gladiators.

The TV star, 53, presented the hit 90s show with John Fashanu and has now revealed that the “scandals were never far away”.

She opened up in The Sun, not long after former Gladiator Jefferson King (Shadow) was pictured in a mug shot after admitting to being involved in a blackmail plot.

Jonsson said when she started on the show she was “astounded by the arrogance” of some of the Gladiators.

“That first year in the Hyatt Regency hotel, which we more or less took over, there was a lot of bed-hopping, as there would be with a bunch of young, virile men and women with insane bodies,” she shared.

“Apparently, there were quite a few multiples of people enjoying a bit of rough and tumble under the covers, while I was up in my room writing the script and furiously trying to learn my lines.”

Jonsson also addressed rumours of steroid use on the programme, saying that “by the mid-90s, the show’s producers started testing the cast”.

“I was clear every time, for the record,” she said.

Jonsson became embroiled in a bit of a scandal of her own when she had a dalliance with Hunter.

“I was the focus of attention when I was unfaithful to my husband in 1995 with Gladiator Hunter, aka James Crossley," she said.

“It wasn’t my finest hour, but happily it wasn’t a sackable offence.

“If anything, the publicity surrounding the affair may even have been deemed a positive by the producers.”

The star said she felt "privileged" to have been a part of the TV hit, which originally aired from 1992 to 2000 and was rebooted from 2008 to 2009.

Describing herself and the Gladiators as a “giant, dysfunctional, maladjusted family”, she added that she’d made some great friends on the show.
