Ukrainians Celebrate Orthodox Easter in Kharkiv

Residents celebrated Orthodox Easter Sunday in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on April 24, under the threat of Russian bombardment.

Video filmed by Ukrainian Witness shows residents attending mass and clergymen consecrating Easter baskets at Archangel Michael Orthodox Church on Sunday.

In Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelensky stood in the Saint Sophia Cathedral and gave an Easter message, recalling the cathedral’s founding in the 11th century to mark the victory of Kyivan Rus over nomadic invaders.

“We are undergoing severe tests,” he said, according to a machine translation. “Let us go on this path to a just end.”

“At Easter, we ask God for great grace to make our great dream come true – this is another great day, the day when great peace will come to Ukraine. And with him – eternal harmony and prosperity. With faith and confidence in this, I congratulate all of you on Easter,” his Facebook post said. Credit: Ukrainian Witness via Storyful
