UK zoo welcomes birth of first red-bellied lemur

Video taken by the zoo on May 14 showed the little one tightly clinging to its mother’s back as it explores the zoo enclosure.

The baby, whose sex is yet-to-be determined, was born to first time mother Aina and father Frej after a 127-day pregnancy.

Native to Madagascar, the red-bellied lemurs are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
