UK weather: Travel disruption as gusts of 80mph hit parts of UK amid yellow weather warnings
Gusts of up to 80mph have hit parts of the UK, sparking disruption to rail and ferry services, while drivers have been warned about potentially dangerous crosswinds.
More than 40 train services were cancelled in Scotland on Wednesday morning, while ferry services were halted in western parts of the country.
The Met Office also urged caution for drivers using north-to-south roads, such as the A1(M), due to high winds, which are pushing east across northern areas of the UK.
Yellow weather warnings for strong winds covering all of Scotland, northern areas of England, and parts of Northern Ireland, are in place until this evening.

The weather agency has warned the wind has the potential to cause damage to buildings and there is a risk of power cuts in some areas.
The weather pattern is set to sweep across the UK, over the North Sea, and towards Norway, where it has been classified as a storm by Norwegian meteorologists and named Storm Ingunn.
It will not impact UK storm names, which are set jointly between meteorologists in the UK, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
Travel disrupted
In Scotland, rail services between cities such as Dundee and Glasgow, and Aberdeen to Edinburgh, were cancelled due to the high winds.
Services linking Inverness to several northern towns were also axed.
Speed restrictions have been put in place across much of the network and safety inspections are set to continue on sections of the track throughout the day.

Meanwhile, ferry operator CalMac, which operates between mainland Scotland and its main western islands, has cancelled all departures on five of its routes, with more services under review for the rest of the day.
No ferries will sail from Oban to Colonsay, or from Mallaig to Armadale, while there are warnings other scheduled departures from Ardrossan and Ullapool may be cancelled at short notice too.
Forecasters have predicted weather conditions will get worse as the day progresses.
Severe gales are expected to develop across the north of the country later today.
