UK experts say children with COVID-19 may be less contagious

Two epidemiologists who have been advising the British government on the current coronavirus pandemic are saying that preliminary research suggests children may not transmit the infection on the same level as adults.

It may come as a relief to parents looking for reassurance that it's safe to send their children back to school, Dr Rosalind Eggo, told lawmakers.

“We are very certain that children are less likely to have severe outcomes and there are hints that children are less infectious but it is not certain"

In addition, John Edmunds, from Britain's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies confirmed his findings on the same day that children did not seem to play much of a role in spreading the disease.

Their research did come with a note of caution though. Edmunds added that human immunity to the virus may not last long.
