Uber launches vaccine rides program

Now you can get a free ride to get your COVID-19 shot. Uber began waving fares on Monday for trips costing less than $25 to and from a vaccination site. If the journey costs more than that, Uber said riders will get a $25 discount off the fare.

Since the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two shots, Uber will pay up to $100 per passenger. The company said drivers will get full payment for the trip.

It’s the latest incentive to get more Americans to get a shot when vaccine demand has declined. President Joe Biden, who aims to get 70% of adults inoculated by the July 4th holiday, announced a partnership with Uber and Lyft two weeks ago to boost vaccination rates. Lyft will give customers a $15 discount.

The discounted rides program comes as the two ride-hailing companies work to lure back drivers and riders and recover revenue lost during the health crisis.
