U.S. zoo welcomes two penguin chicks

Videos shared by the zoo shows one chick with her female-male parents and the other being cared for by a male-male pair.

The first chick hatched on December 8 while the second chick parented by the two males hatched on December 15, the zoo said in an emailed statement.

A female that is paired with another male laid an egg in the same-sex pair's nest area and returned to her mate, while the two penguins cared for the egg and now raise the chick "as their own," Indianapolis Zoo told Reuters in an email.

The two Gentoo penguin chicks are the first penguin chicks to be hatched at the zoo since 2012.
