STORY: The U.S. has warned over 'forever chemicals' in drinking water

saying the toxins can be harmful even at undetectable levels

The family of toxic chemicals known as PFAS

have been used for decades in household products

such as stain and water-resistant textiles, and non-stick cookware

Scientists have linked some PFAS to cancers, liver damage

low birth weight and other health problems

But the chemicals are not yet regulated

The EPA is set to issue proposed rules in coming months to regulate PFAS

and roll out the first $1 billion to tackle PFAS in drinking water

from a total of $5 billion in funding in the 2021 infrastructure law
