Tyler Bergantino and Gabby Gonzalez are calling it quits.

The couple, who went viral for their meet-cute online in June 2024, announced their breakup on their respective TikTok accounts on Jan. 2.

"Gabby and I broke up, we had a lot of different beliefs," Begantino shared in his TikTok. "The distance — not only physically but we were at in our life ended up being too much, [and] that's okay."

He added that a "breakup in the public eye is new" for him and "amplifies everything" but wanted to let everyone know because they've "been involved from the very beginning in Miami."

"You've cared for us and supported us," he continued. "I know you all wanted us to work out, and so did I." He also emphasized that he didn't want people to "pick sides" in the breakup and said that he "wished her nothing but the best" and hopes that "she finds everything that she's looking for."

"The story we had was amazing [and] the stars aligned," he said. "Neither of us could take credit for that... That was one of those God things." Bergantino concluded the video and asked for everyone to "keep us in your prayers," adding that "there's still love out there" for others. "Just because it didn't work out with her and I, doesn't mean those random encounters that lead to a spark and lead to love don't exist."

Gonzalez posted her own statement on the breakup on TikTok and said that "he is just not my person and I'm not his."

Bergantino and Gonzalez exclusively revealed to PEOPLE in late June that they were officially dating and they continued to document their relationship and share milestones online, including starting a podcast together. In one of the first episodes in July, Bergantanio and Gonzalez opened up about building a “deeper connection” off-camera.

“It's so cool that [connection] is being shown through our videos because that's why people are following along,” Gonzalez said. “That’s why there’s such a huge supportive audience is because people want that.”

Both Bergantino and Gonzalez opened up about keeping their relationships fairly private in the past, noting that their relationship was specifically different since it began online.

"This was a very real relationship," Gonzalez added in her TikTok video on their breakup. "We knew we liked each other instantly [in May] and once we filmed it, we didn't want to post it because we were so scared about whether social was going to ruin it if we did start dating."

But despite their fears, Gonzalez said that sharing their relationship online ended up being "the best decision ever."

"You guys were so supportive [and] I've never seen so much positivity on social media," she continued. "I'm very grateful for that. However, this is a very real breakup and we are two human beings that are going to need to heal from this."

Gonzalez added that she would be "healing privately" and noted that she would not be sharing anything else about their breakup.

"I'm very grateful for all the experiences that we've had together, but I am excited to just move forward with my own path and wish him nothing but the best."
