Ty Olsson Expresses Gratitude for 'Love' and 'Kindness' Shown to Him and DJ Qualls After Engagement News
“Sending you all some love and hugs,” the 'Supernatural' actor said on X (formerly known as Twitter)
Ty Olsson is feeling the love after announcing his engagement to Supernatural costar DJ Qualls.
On Thursday, May 16, the day after Qualls, 45, revealed the couple's big news, Olsson, 50, said he’s grateful for the “love” and “kindness” shown to him and his fiancé in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Thank you everyone for all the love and support and kindness today,” he said alongside a classic smiley face: “:).”
“Sending you all some love and hugs,” he added.
Qualls announced that he and Olsson’s friendship had become something more on the Wednesday, May 15 episode of his Locked and Probably Loaded podcast with Kelly Blackheart.
He said that he and Olsson clicked instantly, telling co-host Blackheart, “Ty and I became inseparable at the very beginning, just immediately. And over the last 10 years our relationship evolved to what it is today, and now we’re getting married.”

Also during the podcast, Qualls (who played werewolf Garth on Supernatural) recalled how he first crossed paths with his fiancé (who played the vampire Benny) at a convention for the CW series.
He said the actors “didn’t know each other at all,” and their actual run-in at the fan gathering wasn’t exactly where sparks first flew.
“We maybe said three words together at the Supernatural convention, and then we went to London for four or five days afterward,” he recalled. “And then I was going to Turkey with a friend — and he is such a pure, awesome guy. He came up to us — we all went out as a group — and he was like, ‘Can I come on your trip with you?’ ”
Qualls called his now-fiancé’s move “ballsy” adding, “I could never invite myself on somebody’s trip.”
“‘Cause I’d be afraid they would begrudgingly tell me ‘yes,’ and then not want me there,” he continued. “But it was just so pure and awesome, and that’s who he is. I didn’t know him. And it was the beginning of our friendship.”

Reflecting on how their relationship became what it is today, he added, “It’s just so crazy that this person who was just my friend, now I think about all the time and he sends the best messages, and he supports me and loves me unconditionally in the right way.”
Qualls also said he felt that “unconditional love” comes with the mutual understanding that “you treat that person with some respect and their best interests are your best interests,” which he noted is evident by Olsson’s treatment of him.
"Ty was the first person in my entire life, my entire life that [I] ever had that with,” he said. “I say just a friend. [He is] the best friend I ever had, and now we’re going to be old men together, which is so crazy."
