Two sisters drown during family trip to Johor’s Tanjung Buloh Beach

KOTA TINGGI, May 1 — A family outing at the Tanjung Buloh Beach here ended in tragedy after two sisters drowned while their mother and a friend nearly suffered the same fate.

The siblings were identified as Siti Nursalina Johari, 10, and her sister, Siti Rabiah Johari, 13.

The two adults were identified as Saleha Haron, 27, and Mersidita Yunos, 46, who is also the mother of the two deceased children.

Penawar Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Assistant Fire Chief Mohd Khairul Sufian Dahari said that a distress call regarding the incident came in around 3.30pm.

“After receiving the call, a total of nine personnel with two emergency assistance vehicles from the Penawar Fire and Rescue Station were immediately despatched to the location.

“Upon arrival at the location, the operation team learnt that four victims from a family had difficulties at sea and drowned at the location,” he said in a statement tonight.

Mohd Khairul said it was learned that members of the public had managed to rescue the women and children before the operations team arrived.

“However, the two children who drowned were later confirmed to have died,” he said.

Mohd Khairul said, the rescue team provided immediate medical treatment to the two survivors.

He said the bodies of the deceased victims were later handed over to the police for further action.
