Two days after Emergency ended, Malaysia’s Covid-19 cases rise again to 17,105; Johor and Sabah cross 1,000

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 ― The Health Ministry today reported 17,105 new Covid-19 cases, an uptick from yesterday’s 15,764 total.

This brings the nation’s cumulative Covid-19 cases to 1,163,291, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah posted on Twitter this afternoon.

“Selangor still had the highest number of cases at 5,836 followed by Kuala Lumpur at 2,309, Johor at 1,275, Kedah at 1,036 and Sabah at 1,010,” he said.

Other states which recorded a fairly high number of positive cases were Perak at 967, Kelantan at 915, Negri Sembilan at 816 and Penang 798.

As for the remaining states and federal territories, they still recorded three-digit numbers, except for Labuan (five), Putrajaya (72) and Perlis (seven).

In terms of infection clusters, Dr Noor Hisham said there were 30 new ones detected today from among 14 communities and 14 workplaces, while two more were from high-risk groups.

“Clusters that remain active are 1,143, while 2,618 clusters have ended their infection period,” he said.

He also added that from the 17,105 new infections today, 317 cases (1.9 per cent) were Category (CAT) -3, -4 and -5.

On the other hand, 16,788 cases (98.1 per cent) were of CAT-1 and -2.

“Overall, only 3,115 (18.2 per cent) of cases have immunisation history,” Dr Noor Hisham said.

Malaysia’s cumulative Covid-19 cases today are at 1,163,291.

On Saturday, the country saw a new all-time high for the most Covid-19 daily infections in 24 hours, with the Health Ministry recording 17,786 cases, almost approaching the 18,000 mark.
