Cristiano Ronaldo to AC Milan rumours are reportedly built up after Chelsea enter talks over a possible €100m plus transfer.

The Portugal international made it clear to the Manchester United hierarchy at the beginning of the summer that he wants leave Old Trafford before the transfer deadline.

Man Utd failed to qualify for the Champions League after finishing sixth in the Champions League and now Ronaldo faces his first season in the Europa League.

But Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag said yesterday that he didn’t envisage any more outgoings this summer ahead of their match against Leicester City tonight.

“In offensive departments we need to strengthen, there are many games to cover, three games a week,” Ten hag said.

“Especially for offensive players fatigue quicker because they run more at higher intensity. We need numbers. But not only quantity, we need quality.

“This squad we will go from September to the minimum January. It will be for this window the end but when there is great opportunity we always have to be alert at this top club.”

But The Sun has managed to cobble together a rumour via Twitter that Ronaldo could potentially still be on his way out before the deadline asking: ‘Could this be it?’

After Twitter ‘theorised’ that a deal could ‘go ahead’, The Sun added that Milan ‘may make a late swoop for Ronaldo’ while they brought up an old report from the Manchester Evening News which suggested a move to the Serie A club ‘would appeal’.

This has all been brought about because of Chelsea’s reported late interest in Ronaldo’s compatriot Rafael Leao with claims yesterday that the Blues are in ‘talks with the attacker.

Chelsea have already spent over £240m this summer and a move for Leao would cost them at least another €100m (£86m).

That could mean Milan would be looking for another attacking player before the deadline and The Sun (and Twitter) reckon that could be Ronaldo.

Despite the criticism Ronaldo has got over the last 12 months or so, he clearly still knows where the back of the net is, scoring 24 goals in 38 matches in all competitions for Man Utd last term.
