TWD: Daryl Dixon Stars Tell All About the #Caryl Reunion, a Chance for Romance and How Season 2 Is ‘Not Holding Anything Back’

In one sense, when The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon returns to AMC with Season 2 on Sunday, Sept. 29 (at 9/8c), it moves us back toward business as usual: We won’t have to wait till Episode No. 6 to see Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride reunited as “Caryl.”

“I love that about this season,” McBride tells TVLine. “It’s not holding anything back about the fact that these two are going to find each other. [Viewers] don’t know exactly when it’s going to happen, but it won’t take too long.”

What’s more, Reedus adds, “The build-up to that is awesome.”

Once the post-apocalyptic besties are back in action together, it will feel like old times anew. Despite the months apart and Daryl’s attachment to Isabelle and Laurent, the tag team “pretty much pick up where they used to be,” says Reedus. “Their friendship has been earned over time for so long, which I feel like resonates on the screen.”

“It’s not like two random characters who meet up and just hit it off,” McBride chimes in. “You know that that relationship is earned.”

A relationship that is less written in stone is Daryl and Isabelle’s. Throughout Season 1, we were sure that we saw sparks fly between them. Were there… or was it our imagination? “I think it’s a little bit more than just that,” Reedus suggests. “Daryl’s been fighting his entire life, running his entire adult life. So he’s never really had that opportunity [to dabble in romance], you know?

“Every time it comes up, he doesn’t really know what it is. He doesn’t know how to flirt,” he continues with a laugh. But Isabelle is “somebody who showed their real self to him, behind the nun outfit and behind the past history, and that means a lot to him. Once you crack the shell and he can see inside, he looks at you a little differently.”

Which doesn’t necessarily mean that we are in for a hot-‘n’-heavy #Darabelle affair. As Reedus is quick to remind, “But he still doesn’t know exactly what he’s doing.”

Drop your hopes for Season 2 of Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol in the comments.
