CBS’ Fire Country spinoff has found its deputy.
Matt Lopez (ABC’s Promised Land) has been named showrunner of Sheriff Country, TVLine has confirmed.

As previously reported, the offshoot centers on Morena Baccarin’s “straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Fire Country‘s Diane Farr), who investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.”
Sheriff Country will make its debut during the 2025-26 TV season. Our sister site Deadline was first to report Lopez’s hire.

* Trevor St. John, who joined The Young & The Restless as Tucker McCall in 2022, has announced his departure from the CBS soap. “As you well know, Tuckers come and Tuckers go, and so the cycle continues,” the One Life to Live vet wrote on X. “This Tucker is in his go phase…. I thank each and every member of the wonderful cast, the crew, the directors, the producers and production staff, and CBS/Sony for the great experience from day one to the last. I feel so fortunate to have played such a terrific role.”
* The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets will premiere Tuesday, July 23 at 9/8c on MTV. The previously announced cast includes Macy Gray, Chet Hanks, Kim Zolciak, O.T. Genasis, Ally Brooke, Johnny Weir, Josie Canseco and Tyler Posey.
* The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 3 has added Devin Craig (Queen Sugar), Ruby Cruz (Mare of Easttown), Michael Provost (Insatiable) and Roby Attal (Partner Track) to Season 3, Deadline reports. All four will recur as Essex College students.
* Netflix has released a trailer for the four-part docuseries Simone Biles Rising, which drops Wednesday, July 17:
