Turkish Women Defy Ban, Host 'Feminist Night March' in Istanbul on International Women's Day
Turkish women defied a protest ban on Wednesday, March 8, to march on the streets of Istanbul for International Women’s Day.
According to reports, organizers had been forbidden for a second year in a row from marching through Turkey’s biggest city, where Women’s Day marches had been held since 2003.
On Wednesday night, local media reported police used tear gas to disperse protesters after a group attempted to enter Taksim Square.
