Turkish lawmakers are expected to vote on Sweden's accession to NATO before Jan. 28, Bloomberg reported on Jan. 22, citing a senior government official.

The ruling party of Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and its nationalist ally are lobbying to secure parliamentary support for the ratification of Sweden’s NATO membership, the source said.

Turkey's backing for Sweden's bid is regarded as part of a "complex web of geopolitical moves." In a deal with the United States, Ankara hopes to acquire 40 new F-16 fighter jets and 79 kits to upgrade its existing fleet of combat aircraft.
