Tucson Footage Shows Heavy Smoke From Bighorn Fire

The Bighorn fire in Arizona’s Pima County has burned over 31,000 acres and prompted evacuations on Thursday, June 18, according to local media reports.

The blaze had burned through 23,892 acres by Wednesday night. Coronado National Forest officials said winds on Wednesday contributed to a 7,000-acre increase in the fire’s spread.

A lightning strike ignited the fire on June 5, and it has continued to spread with the help of dry and windy conditions, according to a National Wildfire Coordinating Group report. As of Thursday, the fire was reportedly 40 percent contained.
