Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham could “tick boxes” for Thomas Tuchel as he looks for his first job after leaving Chelsea, according to Stan Collymore.
Tuchel finds himself out of work after Chelsea sacked him. His departure came following the club’s shock 1-0 defeat Dinamo Zagreb.
This was a further blow after Chelsea had already suffered defeats in the league against Leeds United and Southampton.
The club’s hierarchy moved quickly to replace Tuchel and Graham Potter has been confirmed as his successor following his stellar spell at Brighton.
Tuchel’s spell at Chelsea will largely be looked back on fondly after he helped the club win the Champions League last year.
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Tuchel “wants to come back ASAP”:
“Honestly, at the moment neither Thomas Tuchel nor his agents have any idea of the next step,” Romano wrote for Caught Offside.
“It will take time to figure out the next project, but for sure Tuchel wants to come back ASAP and work hard again in football as he didn’t expect to be fired by Chelsea.
“It’s been suggested by some that Tuchel would be better suited to a club with fewer superstars, but I’m not sure I agree.
“He guided PSG and Chelsea to the Champions League final in successive seasons and won big trophies with both clubs.
“I certainly think big clubs in Europe would feel he’d be a good choice for them, but let’s see what opportunities there’ll be.”
He will not be short of options when he looks to return to management. But Collymore has picked out Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham as possible destinations.
Eddie Howe is doing a great job at Newcastle and they have only lost once in the league so far this term. Aston Villa and West Ham currently find themselves around the relegation places, though.
Ex-Premier League player Collymore has suggested that Villa, Newcastle and West Ham “could all offer a long-term project” to Tuchel:
“I don’t see him automatically getting one of the big European jobs any time soon,” said Collymore.
“Maybe in Italy, a Juventus or one of the Milan clubs might be looking to make a change during the World Cup and they will be interested.
“But he can’t hang around too long for fear of becoming yesterday’s man and I wonder if his most likely destination will be one of our B+ clubs, such as Newcastle, West Ham or Aston Villa.
“Eddie Howe, David Moyes and Steven Gerrard could well be the ones looking over their shoulders and their clubs could afford to pay Tuchel £8million-£10million-a-year.
“The fact they could all offer a long-term project as well might tick boxes for him because the pressure wouldn’t be what it has been at Chelsea.
“Time will tell, but don’t be surprised if we see him again sometime soon.”
