Tube station queues warning ahead of Saturday's Champions League final at Wembley

Queues may be needed for two London Underground lines on Saturday because of the Champions League final.

TfL said that a “queuing system” may be needed for safety reasons as hordes of football fans descend on Wembley Stadium to see Real Madrid play Borussia Dortmund.

The Jubilee and Metropolitan lines are expected to be especially busy, with TfL warning of some possible “short-term safety measures”.

These include queuing, closures, trains non-stopping or changes to the way people enter or exit a station.

Especially busy stations are expected to include Baker Street, Bond Street, Canary Wharf, Charing Cross, Embankment, Marble Arch, Waterloo, Westminster, Wembley Park and Wembley Central.

TfL is strongly advising supporters going to the game to arrive at Wembley four hours before kick-off, which is at 8pm.

Those not going to Wembley on Saturday are being advised to seek alternative travel routes to avoid the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines.

In addition, from Thursday to Sunday, the Champions Festival will be taking place across numerous sites in central London including Trafalgar Square, Regent Street, Somerset House, the South Bank and Potters Field Park.

These areas are expected to be busier than normal.

Wembley will have the biggest stewarding operation in its history in place on Saturday to ensure the Champions League final avoids a repeat of the chaotic scenes that has marred it in the past.

The previous two Champions League finals in Paris and Istanbul both encountered trouble for fans, while the Euro 2020 final at Wembley three years ago also suffered from mass disorder.
