Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States by Chief Justice John Roberts in an inauguration ceremony inside the Capitol Rotunda on Monday.
"I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success," Trump said after taking his oath of office. "A tide of change is sweeping the country."
Trump beat then-Vice President Kamala Harris in November's election four years after losing to Joe Biden. Trump is the second person in U.S. history to win a nonconsecutive presidential term, following Grover Cleveland in 1884 and 1892.

Extreme cold temperatures in Washington, D.C., forced the ceremony to be moved indoors for the first time since 1985. Guests in the rotunda included former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, some of Trump's Cabinet picks and allies, including several major tech executives, as well as Trump's family members. Additional guests watched the ceremony from Emancipation Hall, while supporters watched from inside Capital One Arena.

President Donald Trump has paused imposing tariffs on small-value packages arriving from China, apparently to give federal agencies time to sort out how to process millions of such shipments that have come through the U.S. border every day without paying taxes. The executive order, dated Wednesday, didn't say when the pause would end but said it would cease when the Department of Commerce could put in place “adequate systems” to “fully and expediently process and collect tariff revenue.” “It's just showing we're moving fast, and the implications are not fully understood when some of these regulations are put in place,” said John Lash, group vice president of product strategy at the supply chain platform e2open, pointing out that Trump's order affected huge numbers of small packages, many in transit.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy pored over a once-classified map of vast deposits of rare earths and other critical minerals during an interview with Reuters on Friday, part of a push to appeal to Donald Trump's penchant for a deal. The U.S. president, whose administration is pressing for a rapid end to Ukraine's war with Russia, said on Monday he wanted Ukraine to supply the U.S. with rare earths and other minerals in return for financially supporting its war effort. "If we are talking about a deal, then let's do a deal, we are only for it," Zelenskiy said, emphasising Ukraine's need for security guarantees from its allies as part of any settlement.
A host of MSNBC’s flagship weekend show suggested on Saturday that President Donald Trump picked former Senator Marco Rubio as secretary of State as an act of ritual humiliation. Former RNC Chair Michael Steele, who co-hosts MSNBC’s The Weekend, was chatting with Susan Del Percio, a GOP strategist, when the issue came up on Saturday morning’s broadcast. “I’ve always looked at Donald Trump selecting [Rubio] as a way to punk the hell out of him,” Steele said. “Because this is a guy who has a core.
