A handful of House Republicans are standing behind President-elect Donald Trump’s ambitions to acquire Greenland, and have proposed a new bill to help expedite negotiations.

First reported by Fox News Digital, the bill, dubbed the “Make Greenland Great Again Act,” was spearheaded by Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) and aims to pave the way for negotiation talks between Denmark—whose constitution protects Greenland’s autonomy—and Trump over the territory’s ownership.

“Joe Biden took a blowtorch to our reputation these past four years, and before even taking office, President Trump is telling the world that America First is back,” Ogles told Fox News Digital. “American economic and security interests will no longer take a backseat, and House Republicans are ready to help President Trump deliver for the American people.”

The bill is backed by 10 other House Republicans, including Reps. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), Diana Harshbarger (R-Tenn.), Michael Rulli (R-Ohio), Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas), Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.), Neal Dunn (R-Fla.), Barry Moore (R-Ala.), Randy Weber (R-Texas), and Brian Babin (R-Texas)—who also has been selected as chairman for the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee.

“Congress hereby authorizes the President, beginning at 12:01 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 20, 2025, to seek to enter into negotiations with the Kingdom of Denmark to secure the acquisition of Greenland by the United States,” a copy of the bill published by Fox News Digital reads, indicating that they hope to open talks shortly after Trump’s inauguration.

“Not later than 5 calendar days after reaching an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark relating to the acquisition of Greenland by the United States, the President shall transmit to the appropriate congressional committees the agreement, including all related materials and annexes,” it continues.

Although he floated the idea of buying Greenland during his first term, Trump has recently been outspoken on his desire to acquire the island and claimed he wouldn’t rule out economic or military force to seize it.

“No, I can’t assure you on either of those two,” Trump told New York Times journalist David Sanger when asked if he could “assure the world” that he won’t be using “military or economic coercion” to seize control of Greenland and the Panama Canal at a news conference in Mar-a-Lago last week. “But I can say this, we need them for economic security.”

Meanwhile, Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede said that he’s “ready to talk” with the president-elect at a press conference in Copenhagen on Friday, before adding: “Greenland is for the Greenlandic people. We do not want to be Danish, we do not want to be American. We want to be Greenlandic.”
