Trump Blames ‘Deranged’ Enemies for Hush Money Case in Posts
President-elect Donald Trump went on a rage-fueled social media tear early Saturday following a judge’s order for him to appear at a sentencing hearing 10 days before his inauguration.
Again asserting his innocence in the hush money case, Trump attacked Judge Juan Merchan, Special Counsel Jack Smith, E. Jean Carroll, President Joe Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris for his legal troubles.
Furthermore, he claimed that no other president had ever been so “evilly and illegally treated.”
In the case overseen by Merchan, Trump was found guilty of 34 felonies related to falsifying a business record to cover up an affair with adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
His sentencing was initially slated for November, but Merchan delayed the hearing. On Friday, the judge set it for Jan. 10, but indicated that Trump was unlikely to receive prison time, a fine, or probation.
Nevertheless, the news seemed to spoil Trump’s Friday night and Saturday morning. He unleashed a lengthy pair of seething posts on Truth Social—building on his initial anger on Friday over the announcement.
“I never falsified business records,” Trump wrote. “It is a fake, made up charge by a corrupt judge who is just doing the work of the Biden/Harris Injustice Department, an attack on their political opponent, ME!”
Trump suggested that Merchan should be disbarred and repeated his frequent—but unsubstantiated—claim that “Every legal scholar of note said there IS NO CASE AGAINST ME.”
The situation seemed to resurface Trump’s anger at another legal decision against him—a 2023 jury ruling that found Trump liable for sexual assault and defamation against writer E. Jean Carroll.
Trump alleged that a “totally out of control, Trump hating judge, presided” over the case, describing Carroll as “woman I never met (celebrity photo lines from 30 years ago don’t count!).”
Trump alleged that the “The Biden/Harris DOJ was involved, directly or indirectly, in each of these cases,” adding that “Deranged Jack Smith” was involved as well.
After some further railing against Biden and Smith, Trump finally seemed to lose steam, ending his tirade with: “With all of this said, I still have confidence that the Appellate Courts will bring JUSTICE TO AMERICA!!!”
