Trump and Biden make their pitches in PA
U.S. President Donald Trump, made not one but three campaign stops in the critical battleground state of Pennsylvania on Monday.... where according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll he Is trailing rival Joe Biden by 5 percentage points.
Trump spent much of Monday bemoaning the fact that the coronavirus, which has killed roughly 225,000 americans, continues to dominate headlines 7 months into the pandemic
"And we're rounding the turn. You know, all they want to talk about is COVID. By the way, on November 4th, you won't be hearing so much about it. COVID! COVID! COVID!"
With eight days to go until Election Day, the president attacked Biden on what he called "an existential" issue for Pennsylvania -- Biden's comment during last week's presidential debate that if elected he would "transition" the United States away from oil and natural gas.
"No fracking, no natural gas, no jobs."
Biden, however, made a surprise campaign stop in Chester, Pennsylvania, where he sought to set the record straight on his position on U.S. energy reliance.
"Let me make it clear. I'm not shutting down oil fields. I'm not eliminating fracking. I'm investing in clean energy."
Biden also stepped up his criticism of Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic as the US has seen record breaking new cases in recent days.
"The bottom line is, Donald Trump is the worst possible president, the worst possible person to lead us through this pandemic."
And fended off criticism that his campaign schedule is not as aggressive as the president's.
"There's not been a day that's not been a 12 hour day yet... But, the big difference between us and the reason why it looks like we're not traveling. We're not putting on super-spreaders."
Biden scheduled to travel to Georgia on Tuesday, and Florida on Thursday.
Biden: "I feel good. You know, it's not over till it's over."
Trump heads to Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nebraska on Tuesday, alone.
But the window to change voters' minds is quickly closing.
More than 60 million Americans already have cast ballots ahead of the Nov. 3 election just one week away.
