Tropical Storm Laura was expected to impact the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and several other countries on Saturday, August 22, forecasters said, bringing the threat of heavy rainfall and flooding.
Tropical storm conditions were also expected along parts of the northern Leeward Islands, the northern coasts of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and the Turks and Caicos and southeastern Bahamas into Sunday, the National Hurricane Center said, warning that the heavy rain could “cause mudslides and flash and urban flooding through Sunday.”
The storm was expected to enter the Gulf of Mexico on Monday as it moved west-northwest over the weekend, though the intensity and track remained uncertain.
