Tropical Storm Isaias Lashes the Dominican Republic

Heavy rain and powerful winds were reported in the Dominican Republic as Tropical Storm Isaias moved over the Caribbean on Thursday, July 30.

At 2 pm local time on Thursday, Isaias was located 95 miles west-northwest of Punta Cana with maximum sustained winds near 60 mph, reports said.

The storm also left its impact on Puerto Rico, damaging a popular tourist attraction and flooding residential roadways.

Forecasts predicted the storm would affect the Bahamas and Florida on Friday and Saturday. A tropical storm warning for the Dominican Republic remained in effect.
