Tropical Storm Elsa Batters Florida's West Coast With Heavy Wind and Rain

Tropical Storm Elsa brought heavy rain and wind gusts to western Florida overnight into Wednesday, July 7, as the National Hurricane Center warned of surges, heavy rainfall, and strong winds for portions of the peninsula.

Elsa was downgraded to a tropical storm early on July 7, having regained hurricane status hours before.

The latest NHC update said Elsa’s maximum sustained winds were near 65 mph (100 km/h), with higher fluctuations possible.
