Tribute Marked on Beach for Irish Woman Killed While Running

A tribute to a young Irish woman killed on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 12, was marked in the sand on a beach in County Kerry on Friday. “RIP Ashling Murphy. She was going for a run,” it read.

The tribute was created by local sand artist Mario Perez.

Ireland’s public broadcaster RTE News reported that Murphy, a 23-year-old school teacher, was exercising along a popular canal-side route in Tullamore, County Offaly, on Wednesday when she was attacked and killed.

The attack happened at around 4 pm, police said. Credit: Maureen O Mahony via Storyful
