From Cosmopolitan

Over the last six years Caroline Flack graced the cover of Cosmopolitan five times, joined us at numerous brand events and was named one of our Ultimate Women of the Year back in 2015.

The team at Cosmopolitan are deeply affected by her passing at the age of 40, as we know many of you are. She had become one of the brand's extended family and every time we worked with Caroline she was so incredibly open about everything from mental health to relationships, as well as how hard it could be living in the public eye.

Each time we were honoured that she felt comfortable enough to be so honest with us and of course our readers. But most of all Caroline was fun, warm and kind which made it an utter joy to work with her on each and every project. The Cosmopolitan team always looked forward to having her on the set of a cover shoot or speaking at an event. It was never boring when Caroline was around.

Her death has affected so many. You might have found yourself experiencing grief over the situation, as many of us are here at Cosmopolitan. It can be difficult to know how to handle this when it's somebody you don't know, someone in the public eye. Dr Jonathan Pointer, Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist at Therapy Sanctuary, says it is completely normal.

"It's more likely for a person to respond with strong emotion to a celebrity death if they've experienced a bereavement before. The new passing could trigger the re-experiencing of past grief. In some cases, celebrities can almost feel like part of our extended family. Thus, when they die, it's not unusual to feel a sense of loss."

It is incredibly important to us as a brand that we represent a safe, positive place for you all. We are extremely mindful that the Samaritans warn of the effect media coverage can have on those struggling with mental health issues themselves, as well as those close to the individual. It’s something we take very seriously. This is why, while we wanted to acknowledge the devastating news when it broke, you may have noticed that since then, we have held back.

We have decided that the best tribute to Caroline would be to no longer cover any further matters relating to her death. We are, and will remain, deeply saddened by the news. The memory of Caroline and the impact her passing has on her loved ones is more important to us than anything else.
