Trees Down and Gravestones Damaged in Wake of Iowa Storm

A thunderstorm in central Iowa uprooted trees and left gravestones damaged at the Winterset Cemetery, local officials said.

The Madison County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency posted video from the cemetery, showing one of the trees that came down, and damage to headstones.

The cemetery was closed for the day to allow repairs to be carried out.

The National Weather Service had issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the area on the evening of April 23. The next day it reported that high winds were experienced all over Iowa, with highs of 68 mph. Credit: Madison County EMA via Storyful
