Tree Burns After Lightning Strike in Florida Panhandle

A lightning strike set a tree on fire outside a home in Marianne, Florida, on Monday, May 15, as the National Weather Service warned of severe thunderstorms in the area.

Marianne resident Melanie Bush Faircloth was at her home when lightning struck close behind her house. After the strike, Faircloth went outside to check if her livestock were injured from the strike and discovered the tree in flames.

“It shook our brick house,” Faircloth said. “I was concerned that it may have killed some of the cows. After the storm passed I went out to check the cows and the tree was on fire. No cows were harmed this time.” Credit: Melanie Bush Faircloth via Storyful
