Travis Kelce’s silly dance at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour was inspired by Jim Carrey in “Dumb and Dumber”

"It was the perfect time for me to go up there and just be a ham and have some fun," Kelce said of his Eras Tour debut.

Travis Kelce took his Eras Tour debut so seriously that he turned to tap dance extraordinaire Lloyd Christmas for inspiration.

During the July 3 episode of his New Heights podcast, the Kansas City Chiefs star opened up about joining Taylor Swift onstage in London for her June 23 Wembley Stadium performance. Beyond the excitement of making their relationship stadium tour official, the performance gave Kelce the chance to try out a dance move that he’s obsessed over for years.

"It’s such a fun, playful part of the show. It was the perfect time for me to go up there and just be a ham and have some fun,” he told cohost, Jason Kelce. “I always wanted to pull out this move but I never knew when I should pull it out. And it was the Dumb and Dumber [move], with Jim Carrey, him like doing tap dances. That’s one of my favorite moves of all time.”

Kelce joined Swift onstage during the Tortured Poets Department section of her concert, for a bit that involves the pop star being revived by her backup dancers to sing "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart." Kelce donned a tuxedo and top hat for the gig, pretended to powder Swift’s face and at one point, carried her across the stage to a couch.

Still, his Dumb and Dumber routine was appreciated: eagle-eyed Swifties were quick to notice that Kelce broke from the usual choreography to show off his dance moves.

In the same conversation, Kelce revealed that making an Eras Tour cameo was his idea — though he initially meant it as a joke.

“I was like, ‘How funny would it be if I just rolled out on one of the bikes during the 1989 era?,’” he recalled. “She started laughing and was like, ‘Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?’ And I was like, ‘What?! I would love to do that. I’ve seen the show enough, might as well put me to work here.'”

In the end, Kelce’s biker moment wasn’t meant to be. “She found the perfect, perfect part of the show for me to come in. There was no bike in case I ran into somebody else or hit one of the dancers or anything,” he explained. “It was the safest option.”

The NFL star went on to say that it was "an honor" to just be on stage with Swift and her crew, giving a special shoutout to backup dancer Kameron Saunders, the brother of his former Chiefs teammate Khalen Saunders. While Kelce said there weren’t too many nerves surrounding his Eras Tour debut — "You can do no wrong when Taylor's onstage"  — he did admit the “one thing” that gave him some pause.

"Listen, the one thing I told myself is: 'Do not drop the baby. Do not drop this — do not drop Taylor on your way over to this damn couch,’” he recalled. “The golden rule was: 'Do not drop Taylor getting her over to the couch.”

Thankfully, the mantra was effective and Kelce’s cameo went off without a hitch.. “I didn’t disappoint Taylor,” he said. “So that’s all that really matters.”

Swift was quick to express her joy over their onstage moment, celebrating Kelce with a social media shoutout the following day.

"I’m still cracking up/swooning over @killatrav’s Eras Tour debut 🥰," she wrote on Instagram, adding she's "never going to forget" the London shows. The singer performed for three nights in June at Wembley Stadium and will return for five more shows in August to close out the European leg of her tour.
