KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — Three travel firms will move their bus ticketing services online in a bid to ease heavy queues and congestion at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said today.

He also said an additional 256 buses have been approved to meet the travel demands of the “balik kampung” crowd during Hari Raya Aidilfitri that was expected to be this weekend.

“Last year, so many people complained of the congestion during Christmas because they had to print their boarding passes at TBS. This took too long.

“Hence, three online travel agents — Redbus, BusOnlineTicket and GoHub — are going printless, they’ve begun to integrate their system with TBS.

“Users need only to scan the QR code the company sends you and you may board the bus directly. This will help avoid the issues of congestion last year,” Loke told reporters when met at TBS today where he met with travellers and gave out goodie bags with Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The QR code will be sent along with a GoPass logo. This method will begin from April 17. For those who purchased tickets before the 17th, the companies will send you an email with the QR code.

“Use that to board the bus and we hope with this we have reduced congestion and long queues by about 80 per cent.”

Last year, TBS was flooded with people eager to make it home to vote in the general election in November and during Christmas.

There were long queues at ticket counters, and travellers sat on the floor waiting for their buses.

Much of the delays were due to needing to print out their tickets physically at the location, which caused chaos as some missed their busses as a result of the waiting or malfunctions.

Former deputy prime minister Dr Wan Azizah, who was the Bandar Tun Razak MP, also urged travellers to be careful when driving back for Hari Raya.

“Deaths on road are real and are high during festive seasons so please be careful and I want to wish everyone a Selamat Hari Raya,” she said.
