Transformer Explosion Lights Up Sky as Ice Storm Hits Northern Illinois

Thousands were left without power after an ice storm hit northern Illinois on Wednesday, February 22, as the National Weather Service warned of wintry conditions and wind gusts of up to 40 mph through Thursday afternoon.

This footage was taken by Dylan Borbely, who said he captured it on Wednesday night after a tree fell on a transformer in Crystal Lake.
