Chelsea want Mudryk, or at least they don’t want Arsenal to have him, in what looks set to be the biggest January window spend by any club in history (by a long, long way).

MUD-DYING THE WATERS
Mykhaylo Mudryk is clearly desperate to leave Shakhtar Donetsk, and is seemingly doing everything he can to keep the Arsenal transfer mill turning.

He took to Instagram on Saturday to post a video showing Mikel Arteta and Roberto De Zerbi as he streamed Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Brighton with the caption ‘2 top coaches’.

Mudryk is clearly an admirer of former Manchester City assistant manager Arteta, and Brighton boss De Zerbi, who he worked under at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Arsenal reportedly lodged a €40m + €20m in add-ons offer for Mudryk, but it was quickly turned down with the Ukraine side holding out for €100m.

That’s where Chelsea come in. The Guardian claim they too are interested in Mudryk, and, unfortunately for Arsenal, are in a free-spending mode which apparently sees no limit to the amount of cash they will spend on an individual.

ENZO ENDGAME
The Blues are also looking to spend €130m on Enzo Fernandez in January and Benfica have now reportedly agreed to his sale. Manager Roger Schmidt seems to have accepted Enzo’s departure.

The Portuguese giants hope that a deal can be agreed ‘in the first week of January’ after ‘opening the door’ to sell the World Cup winner.

Moretto claims that Chelsea are ‘one step away’ from finalising the signing after ‘intensifying’ talks over the last few hours and an agreement is close.

Fernandez has already agreed to join the Stamford Bridge club, meaning Liverpool will miss out on one of their top targets.

Todd Boehly was able to close the deal with little fuss due to his strong relationship with the midfielder’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

It is said that Manchester United ‘were the side most interested’ in signing Fernandez, but ‘fell behind’ after failing to lodge a bid. Yeah, that’ll happen.

With Mudryk and Fernandez, as well as a €40m move for Monaco centre-back Benot Badiashile, which is rumbling on in the background, that’s a January spend of €270m – only slightly less than they spent in the summer, and way more than the current January record, held by Newcastle, after they spent just over €100m last January.

SPURS RE-SIGN
Tottenham Hotspur have ‘taken the first steps’ for a deal to re-sign Sporting Lisbon attacker Marcus Edwards, according to reports.

Antonio Conte is keen on attacking reinforcements after the injury to Richarlison and the Spurs boss was impressed by the Englishman’s performances against Spurs in the Champions League.

Edwards, who made one League Cup appearance for Tottenham before joining Vitoria Guimaraes in 2019, was signed by Sporting in January 2022 and has has scored 12 goals and created 12 in 39 appearances for his new club.

It’s not clear how much Spurs would have to pay to get Edwards back to north London, but he reportedly has a £52m release clause in his contract, which they may feel is a little steep.
