Transfer expert tips Liverpool move to ‘happen really fast’ as they lead Man Utd for midfielder
Liverpool are leading Manchester United in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch before the transfer deadline, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.
The Reds are looking to bring in another midfielder before the transfer deadline if they can get a deal over the line for the right player.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were brought in to cover the losses of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who all left on free transfers in June.
But the unexpected departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia means Liverpool have been dipping back into the transfer market to improve their midfield.
Wataru Endo has arrived from Stuttgart in an £18m deal but Jurgen Klopp is still hoping to bring one more midfielder in before the end of the transfer window on September 1.
And Bild journalist Falk insists that Bayern Munich’s Gravenberch – who is frustrated at his playing time at the Allianz Arena – is ‘open to both’ Liverpool and Man Utd but he the former are “at the front in this race”.

Falk wrote in his Caught Offside column: “I know for sure that Jurgen Klopp is very, very interested in Ryan Gravenberch, and now the situation has changed – Gravenberch has permission from Thomas Tuchel to leave Bayern Munich because Tuchel’s idea is that, if they sell him (and Liverpool have signalled that they could pay £20m), Tuchel would get funds perhaps to fund a new No.6.
“The board had said no to his request, but if there’s money coming in from the potential sale of Gravenberch, he could try to get a holding midfielder for the squad.
“I think Gravenberch is open to both clubs, Liverpool and Manchester United. He’s very interested in the Premier League. He will choose the club that shows him he’ll get playing time.
“I think Klopp is a very good guy to pursue people, so, at the moment, I would see Liverpool being at the front in this race. For Gravenberch, he wouldn’t necessarily mind which club it is. He wants to leave.
“If Liverpool get concrete, this transfer could happen really fast, but you can see that they are testing the market. They tried to get Andre of Fluminense, but they didn’t succeed. Perhaps they go to the next name on the list. With Gravenberch, they know what they’d be getting, though there’s also Manu Kone to consider.
“I heard Gladbach is also expecting an offer from Liverpool soon because, after his injury, he’s become cheaper – before a suitor would have to pay about €50m, now you can get him, perhaps, for about €35m.
“So it’s up to Liverpool to make the next move. Bayern and Gladbach will be open to talks. PSG are still interested in Kone, so there could be a big competition for the player if Liverpool firmly enter the race.
“You saw with the Wataru Endo deal, Liverpool have a man with the German market in his eyes in Jorg Schmadtke. It will be easier for him to do a deal in Germany than what they’ve tried in Brazil.
“There are many Premier League clubs interested in Piero Hincapie. Liverpool could be one of them. I don’t think there’s enough time to make the deal, as Leverkusen don’t want to sell. If they were forced to think about it, it would have to be a high price – €70m and more.
“I don’t think it’s the right moment for Liverpool to spend this money. I think Schamdtke will know that. Leverkusen are very interested in a loan deal for Luke Chambers – they really want him. This could happen, and so you see there talks between Leverkusen and Jorg Schmadtke, but I think he knows it will be too difficult to get Hincapie.”
