Trader Joe's is a great place to stock up on fall essentials like this pumpkin spice coffee blend, as well as pick up a few plants for the house. The grocery store has an amazing plant selection and their newest green might just be our favorite one yet. Coffee plants have been spotted in Trader Joe's stores for a cool $7.99 according to Instagram accounts @trader.joes.spokane and @traderjoes.recipes.
Now if you're like me, you heard the name "coffee plant" and already your caffeine-dependent plant-loving self is en route to the store. But as a little background information, this tropical plant is native to Ethiopia and is known for its vibrant and shiny leaves, according to The Spruce. It's also characterized by its ability to produce small white flowers and berries which can later be broken down into the coffee beans we know and love today. Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely that any coffee plant grown in your home will produce berries, as it has been removed from its natural habitat. Regardless, it's a fairly easy plant to care for and it makes for a great indoor house plant.
Coffee plants should be placed in bright rooms with natural, indirect sunlight—direct and harsh sunlight will dry up its leaves. When it comes to watering, once a week or every other week should do. Coffee plants like water, but it's best not to keep the soil waterlogged.
One more thing: all parts of the coffee plant are toxic to cats, dogs, horses, birds, and other animals, according to The Spruce. So if you have a house pet running around that might take a bite out of one of the leaves, be wary of bringing this plant into your home. As for the rest of us, maybe I'll see you on line at Trader Joe's?
