Tracy Beaker's Dani Harmer is reprising her role for new series

Dani Harmer is officially reprising her iconic character Tracy Beaker for a new BBC series.

Adapted from author Dame Jacqueline Wilson's 2018 book My Mum Tracy Beaker, the upcoming show follows a career-driven, adult version of Tracy and her relationship with 12-year-old daughter Jess.

Quite a change of scenery from the chaos of the Dumping Ground, right?

Speaking to The Sun about this special project, the 31-year-old actress shared: "I can't wait to return again to the role of Tracy. I'm a fan myself and want to know what happens next and where this journey takes her.

"Being a mother, I know how much it changes you. So I'm looking forward to seeing how it has changed Tracy but still keeping her the same feisty, strong female lead that people know and love."

Speaking about the book in 2018, Wilson explained why it was important that Tracy doesn't quite get the fabled happy ending of so many stories.

"I don't want an 'absolutely everything is quite wonderful' ending – after all, at the start of the first book Tracy herself says life isn't a fairy story where everyone lives happily ever after," she told The Observer.

"I'm dealing with adults leading adult lives, and I want to be truthful to all that. But she is my lucky character... and I have a soft spot for her, too."

And while that's fantastic and all, what we really want to know is... will Elaine the Pain make a cameo?
