KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — In response to the government’s call to battle against data breeches in Malaysia, TNG Digital and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) are collaborating to bring a new data protection for Touch ‘n Go eWallet (TNG) users called MyCyberShield.

Launched by YB Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital, the solution is part of TNG’s #JagaDataKita campaign, which is aimed to provide urban and rural users alike with a secure digital lifestyle.

According to Alan Ni, Chief Executive Officer of TNG Digital, the data of 22.5 million Malaysians including full name, ID and even home addresses, is being sold on the dark web.

“Supported by MDEC, TNG Digital has initiated the #JagaDataKita campaign powered by F-Secure to create awareness of safe digital technology and to provide equal opportunities for Malaysians to safeguard themselves,” when commenting on how the campaign is focused on empowering individuals to secure their personal data online.

“The campaign places a focal point on critical aspects such as Data Protection and Data Breach awareness, understanding Cyberthreats and Scams, and cultivating sound Cyber Hygiene practices,” he added on later.

Meanwhile, Timo Laaksonen, President and CEO of F-Secure said, “The first phase of MyCyberShield offers Identity Protection with the Cyber Help feature where subscribers can protect their and their family members’ multiple identities such as email address, credit card, phone, MyKad, and username among others. If breaches occur, subscribers will receive notifications and will also get basic tips and recommended actions based on the severity of the data breaches.”

“The upcoming second phase will see more cybersecurity defences introduced, including exploring the potential of product bundling with TNG Digital Financial Services such as Wallet Safe and other relevant insurance products,” said Laaksonen later on.

He also mentioned that MyCyberShield is being deployed in phases on the Touch ‘n Go eWallet platform. The solution will be a comprehensive personal data protection subscription powered by F-Secure.

From 25th August to 30th September 2023, MyCyberShield is offered to Malaysians at a special rate of as low as RM9.99 for a three-month subscription while enjoying RM3 cashback, credited back to their eWallet. The Cyber Help feature is a personalized assistance offered to the subscribers where they can reach out to F-Secure via phone, to receive expert guidance for their next step if any identity theft case happens. MyCyberShield can be found on Touch ‘n Go eWallet’s homepage under the GOprotect feature. — SoyaCincau
