Tottenham have been urged to sign Borussia Dortmund attacking sensation Youssoufa Moukoko, if only to boost their struggling Under-21 side.
Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Manchester City are among a number of European clubs who have already been linked with a move for the impressive young striker.
Rumours of a switch to the English top flight intensified after Football Insider revealed Moukoko joined England-based agency Unique Sports Management when he turned 18 on November 20.
The forward is currently with Germany at the World Cup after scoring six goals and providing four assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances this season.
But Spurs insider John Wenham admits he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Moukoko ended up in north London.
Wenham told Football Insider: “I have seen reports about this Moukoko.
“I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Tottenham made a move for him. He would be told that he would be part of the first-team squad but would also play every game for the Under-21s to build up his understanding of English football.
“He has a contract that expires in the summer and I expect clubs to be in for him in January. I can see the logic of Tottenham signing him and putting him in the scenario where he would be back up to Kane but also playing for the Under-21s.
“I think signings of that level are needed to make sure our Under-21s aren’t relegated. We aren’t just going to watch that happen without trying to do anything.”
Dortmund star would be signing coup
If Moukoko did come to the club and get used to his new surroundings with a couple of games for the Under-21s it would certainly help the struggling group.
The club’s youngsters have not won any of their 13 Premier League 2 games so far this season.
They are currently rock bottom of their division and are not back in action again until January 8 when they face Liverpool.
As for the Tottenham first team, their next game is a trip to Brentford on Boxing Day.
