Tottenham hope to reach a positive conclusion over their bid to sign Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon with Fabrizio Romano detailing why the next hours are crucial in Antonio Conte’s chances of sealing the deal.

After a turbulent couple of weeks that resulted in painful losses to Arsenal and Manchester City, things are looking up again at Spurs. And Monday’s 1-0 win at Fulham not only showed a togetherness in the camp, it also let Conte underline his commitment to Tottenham.

Now the manager is looking to put claims of his early exit to bed by adding a couple of players to his squad in the final week of the window.

Indeed, Gary Neville cannot understand the fuss being made about Conte and Spurs. He is adamant they are exactly where they need to be. The Sky Sports pundit has also revealed exactly how Conte can still nail down a long-term future at Spurs.

However, Conte appears to still be at loggerheads with chairman Daniel Levy over Tottenham’s transfer policy. Understandably, Levy does not want to commit too much cash knowing that Conte’s deal expires in the summer. He would like him to stay, but until the Italian commits, Levy continues to operate with a slightly-cagey approach. A catch 22 situation if ever there was one.

Nonetheless, our transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed a couple of signings can easily alter Conte’s mind.

Indeed, having benefited from a double signing bounce in the January 2022 window, Conte and Spurs hope for a repeat this time around.

And with his top target being a new right-back, Spurs are honing in on a deal for Porro.

Pedro Porro transfer talks for Tottenham heat up

Talks over the signing of the Spanish star have been ongoing for several days. Spurs have offered £32.5m (€37m) plus add-ons, while Sporting are determined to hold out for his full £39.6m (€45m) exit clause.

Talks to find common ground have so far failed to find an agreement reached. However, the two clubs are meeting once again on Wednesday in one last effort to settle on a fee.

Trusted transfer guru Romano claims talks between the parties are ‘advanced’ but the next hours will be crucial if Spurs are to get the deal done.

He tweeted: ‘Crucial meeting will take place in the next hours for Pedro Porro to Tottenham. As revealed yesterday – talks are advanced but new round of negotiations will be key to get the deal done.

‘Personal terms agreed weeks ago. Clubs will discuss also payment terms/installments.’

As such, there is every chance Tottenham will know by close of play on Wednesday if talks are successful. The former Manchester City man has emerged as one of the best wing-backs in Europe and looks perfect for Conte’s side.

A significant upgrade for both Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty, he should immediately fix their issues in that position.

Should they finalise an agreement, Spurs could soon also welcome another new player in Arnaut Danjuma. Reports in the last 24 hours suggest Tottenham have nipped in to beat Everton to his signing.

The capture of Porro, however, could mean at least one departure at Spurs. And the club’s other right-back, Djed Spece, could find himself departing on loan with Southampton a potential destination.
