Feyenoord are expecting an approach from Tottenham for their manager Arne Slot as the Premier League club ‘step up their interest’, according to Matt Law.

Tottenham are without a head coach having sacked Antonio Conte in April.

Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini took over from his compatriot but only lasted four games as interim.

Ryan Mason is currently in charge and will see out the season while Daniel Levy tries to find Conte’s long-term replacement.

Having failed to lure former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann to north London, Feyenoord boss Slot has emerged as the favourite.

Slot is doing a spectacular job with the Dutch side. He helped them seal the Eredivisie title over the weekend with a win over Go Ahead Eagles.

His top work has not gone unnoticed at Tottenham and the club are now ‘stepping up their interest’ in the Dutch manager, according to The Telegraph.

Feyenoord are braced ‘for a battle’ to keep their manager and are hoping Slot will sign a new contract.

Spurs are ‘seriously considering’ the 44-year-old after making unsuccessful contact with former Spain boss Luis Enrique.

Slot could earn ‘double’ what he does in the Netherlands and Feyenoord would receive around £6million in compensation should he join the north Londoners.

The report claims that Levy would have to assure Slot that he would have full control over the first-team squad.

Levy is also working on bringing in a new sporting director following Fabio Paratici’s exit.

Ex-Bayer Leverkusen director Tim Steidten and AS Roma’s Tiago Pinto are both being considered, the report adds.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed he will not be joining Spurs.

The ex-Liverpool midfielder had been linked to the vacant head coach role at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the past month.

Alonso has impressed in his first senior managerial position after he guided Leverkusen out of relegation trouble in the Bundesliga and into the Europa League semi-finals since his appointment in October.

With Julian Nagelsmann no longer a contender for the role at Spurs and Burnley boss Vincent Kompany signing a new deal earlier this month, Alonso remained one of the bookkeepers’ favourites to replace Antonio Conte.

But speaking at a press conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League last-four second leg with Roma, Alonso said: “I’m happy here with the team and the club.

“I’m not worried about my future.”

Asked by a Bild reporter if that meant he would still be in charge of Leverkusen next season, Alonso replied: “That’s correct.”
