Tottenham have reportedly travelled to Italy ‘several times’ to watch a highly-rated Serie A midfielder in action, although the player himself is only dreaming of joining north London rivals Arsenal.

Morten Hjulmand is regarded as one of the rising stars of Serie A following a string of impressive performances for his club Lecce this season and Calciomercato reports that ‘many clubs’ have set their sights on landing the 23-year-old.

Bigger Italian clubs are in the mix but Spurs and Borussia Dortmund are known to have scouted Hjulmand ahead of a potential summer swoop.

The player’s current price tag is around the €15million (£13.2m) mark, which is viewed as a bargain for a young player shining in Italy’s top flight.

However, the report on Calcio adds that Tottenham need to factor in the player’s love for rivals Arsenal.

Back in February, Sport Witness revealed that the midfielder is a massive Gunners fan and used to have Patrick Vieira’s poster in his room as a child.

The report added that Hjulmand still dreams of moving to The Emirates, while it’s also reported that he has an Arsenal badge tattooed on his left shoulder.

Given those reports, it appears unlikely that the player will choose to join the biggest rivals of the club he loves.

Money talks as Tottenham eye Arsenal fan

However, there is no actual mention of genuine interest from Arsenal in the player and money talks. To that end, if Lecce accepts a bid for Hjulmand from the other half of north London then the player may well have to cover up that tattoo and keep quiet.

Midfield is an area of the pitch where Tottenham are actively looking for more quality numbers.

The much-heralded arrival of Yves Bissouma last summer has not worked out as planned, while Rodrigo Bentancur is on the long-term injured list.

Oliver Skipp continues to show flashes that he could become a solid Premier League midfielder, while the club still has high hopes for Senegal starlet Pape Matar Sarr.

But the club’s summer transfer business very much depends on who will be in charge next season.

Antonio Conte appears almost certain to leave, with Mauricio Pochettino the favourite to return to role he excelled in before eventually being sacked in 2019.
