Tottenham manager latest: Daniel Levy on high alert as coach who wants job leaves current side to hand Spurs prime opportunity
Tottenham Hotspur have been given a fantastic opportunity to end their managerial hunt after one of Daniel Levy’s targets for the role became a free agent.
There have been a couple of big updates recently as Tottenham chairman Levy searches for Antonio Conte’s long-term replacement. On Monday, reports in Italy declared Tottenham to be interested in Luciano Spalletti. Despite him recently guiding Napoli to a glorious Serie A triumph, there is still talk of the former defender leaving to take part in a new challenge.
However, Tottenham are not alone in wanting the title winner. Chelsea are eyeing Spalletti up as a potential alternative to Mauricio Pochettino, while Paris Saint-Germain could move for him if they sack Christophe Galtier.
On Tuesday, Dutch journalist Martijn Krabbendam revealed how Arne Slot of Feyenoord is still in the mix to take over at Tottenham, despite Julian Nagelsmann being the favourite for the role.
But there has now been a significant twist as Oliver Glasner, who was heavily linked with the Spurs vacancy in March and April, will soon be available on a free.
Glasner’s contract with Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt was due to run until June 2024, but the two parties have decided to end it early.

A club statement from Frankfurt read: ‘Following lengthy and intensive discussions as well as a comprehensive analysis with head coach Oliver Glasner, Eintracht Frankfurt have reached the decision to end their working relationship with the tactician at the end of the 2022/23 season.’
Glasner said talks with Frankfurt chiefs were ‘honest, open and fair’. He added that he will do all he can to help Frankfurt qualify for European competition for next season. They are outsiders as they sit in ninth place currently, although a top-six finish remains possible as there are three Bundesliga games still to play.
Tottenham have free shot at manager after exit confirmed
Glasner departing Frankfurt means Spurs have a great chance to end their head coach woes and bring the 48-year-old to North London. In a major boost for Levy, he will not have to pay Frankfurt any compensation for Glasner after they ended his contract a year early.
Plus, in April, German source Bild revealed Glasner is ‘open’ to taking the Spurs job.
Glasner has good pedigree, having helped Frankfurt to win the Europa League last term. They pulled off a shock by beating Barcelona and West Ham on their route to lifting the trophy.
Spurs will be excited by the fact the Austrian managed to guide Frankfurt to European glory as the Premier League outfit are desperate to end their trophy drought.
Despite this, Spurs fans will probably be hoping Nagelsmann takes over rather than Glasner. Nagelsmann may be younger than Glasner but he has more experience working with top stars, having been in charge of RB Leipzig and then Bayern Munich.
Nagelsmann’s connections with both of those teams could also help Spurs sign some big-name players.
Meanwhile, Spurs are at risk of losing out on a transformative signing to Man Utd after Erik ten Hag’s secret weapon emerged.
