Tottenham, Liverpool among four clubs with strong interest in Brighton ace who is causing problems for Tony Bloom
Tottenham and Liverpool are part of a four-club race to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, and the central midfielder is causing problems at the Amex as he is pushing for a transfer, TEAMtalk understands.
Mac Allister moved to the Premier League in January 2019 when Brighton paid South American side Argentinos £7million for him. Mac Allister would not get his chance in England until the second half of the 2019-20 campaign as he had loan spells at Argentinos and Boca Juniors first.
It took him some time to adapt to the English game and Brighton’s style of play, but he started to flourish last season. And the 24-year-old took his game to the next level in the first half of the current campaign, registering league goals against West Ham, Fulham, Leicester and Aston Villa.
Mac Allister’s impressive form on the south coast saw him make Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina squad for the Qatar World Cup. He played a crucial role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph, playing in six of their seven matches and earning plenty of plaudits along the way.
Mac Allister has since been linked with several of England’s biggest teams, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool.
In October, Mac Allister signed a new contract with the Seagulls. It is designed to keep him at the club until June 2025, while it also includes the option of an extra 12 months.

However, Brighton will struggle to keep the playmaker for that long. TEAMtalk has learned that he is causing issues at Brighton as he is agitating for a move.
After winning the World Cup, Mac Allister sees his future as being elsewhere, and he knows there is strong interest in him.
Brighton unhappy with Alexis Mac Allister
His father, Carlos, has confirmed he is in contact with numerous teams.
Brighton’s hierarchy, including owner Tony Bloom, are not happy with Mac Allister’s transfer stance.
Nevertheless, Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea are the main clubs in England who are vying for his signature. Further afield, Juventus are admirers of him.
But the main question is whether Brighton will agree to sell Mac Allister. Bloom has shown in the past that he is great at standing firm, and a player simply wanting to leave does not always result in a departure actually happening – just look at Moises Caicedo.
Mac Allister is trying to force the issue, but Brighton will have to significantly alter their transfer stance if Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea or Juve are to snare him.
Meanwhile, Spurs’ hopes of landing an impressive Prem coach as Antonio Conte’s replacement have been given a lift.
